Sara Claire Chambless: 18 Year Old Mixed Media Artist
and Riverwood High Senior
Solo exhibition at Catherine Kelleghan Gallery in April

Sara Claire Chambless, an 18 year old Riverwood High School senior, will have a solo exhibition of her mixed media canvases at Catherine Kelleghan Gallery in Buckhead on April, 18th from 7-9 pm. In January-February 2008, several works in mixed media were selected for her debut solo exhibition at the Gallery Wall, an ongoing showcase of local and regional working artists at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Since May 2007, she has sold several of her works to private collectors and has received two commissions. Her work was also featured in the bi-annual SPAVA (Spotlight for Performing and Visual Art) exhibit at Riverwood HS and in “The Art of Hope” collaborative exhibition at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs, GA. Sara Claire recently signed with Catherine Kelleghan Gallery in Atlanta for representation in Georgia.
Her influences include surrealist writer André Breton, abstract expressionists Pollock, De Kooning, and Richter, the
Austrian conceptualist, Klimt, and the surrealists, Dalí and Duchamp. “The greatest influence on my abstraction process is Picasso, particularly his decomposition of the human figure into simple, geometric forms,” Sara Claire says in her artist statement. In addition to her work as an artist, Sara Claire has a keen interest in history and will begin pursuing a BA with majors in history and studio art at Davidson College in North Carolina, where she recently was awarded the James G. Pepper Merit Scholarship in Studio Art. She has a strong social conscience and has been a regular volunteer at Ten Thousand Villages, Inc., a non-profit fair trade organization dedicated to improving the living standards of artisans in over thirty developing countries. Sara Claire also works with Sudanese refugee children at the Sudanese Episcopal Church of Atlanta and in the Sudanese literacy program.
