CHILDREN’S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA

PEDIATRIC HOSPITALIST RECEIVES DEAN’S TEACHING AWARD

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta pediatric hospitalist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Emory School of Medicine, David Lloyd, M.D. was awarded the “Dean’s Teaching Award”  at the Miller Ward Alumni Center on the Emory Campus. This award recognizes outstanding faculty in the school’s clinical and basic science departments for excellence in teaching.   The Dean’s Teaching Awards were established as a result of the Emory School of Medicine’s strategic plan for teaching and education. The first awards were presented in 2001. These awards are highly competitive; individuals are nominated by their peers, students and departments and then judged by a special committee. More than 30 faculty members were nominated and Dr. Lloyd was one of only seven to receive the award.

The Children’s hospitalist team is in-hospital pediatricians who work with primary care physicians to diagnose and manage patient care.  “Dr. Lloyd is a valuable asset to the hospitalist program at Children’s and brings a positive attitude to every aspect of his work,” said Corinne Taylor, M.D., director of medical affairs and a hospitalist at Children’s at Egleston. “He is compassionate about his patients and truly advances the Children’s mission to provide the highest quality patient care.”

Dr. Lloyd has been in pediatrics for nearly 30 years. He has worked at Children’s at Egleston and Emory School of Medicine for the past eight years. He also has acted as the co-chairman of the Continuing Medical Education committee for the past five years.
“His warmth and genuine interest in students, not only in their education but for their personal well-being, make him stand out as a superb teacher and mentor,” said Ira K. Schwartz, M.D., Associate Dean of Medical Education and Student Affairs at Emory School of Medicine.
